Hydra Polymers Limited, a technology start-up company based in Liverpool city centre, is expanding and has a vacancy for a formulation chemist.
The position will involve the formulation and testing of new polymers for a number of industrial applications including: coatings, inks, adhesives and cosmetics.
The successful candidate will have at least a degree in chemistry or equivalent industrial experience, preferably with a specialisation in, or knowledge of, formulation science. Excellent laboratory and communication skills will also be expected. Particular preference will be given to applicants familiar with industry standard formulation and testing of coatings, inks, sealants or adhesives. The position requires "hands-on" experience of preparing model formulations, preparation and testing of coatings - evaluating such properties as drying time, hardness, scratch-resistance, substrate-adhesions etc. Additional experience in viscosity/rheology determination would also be beneficial.
The position would require the ability to design formulation matrices, prepare the test compositions then evaluating and reporting the findings.
The position will be initially offered on a six-month fixed term contract with the understanding that this can be extended into a full time position following this initial period.
The salary will be negotiable, depending upon experience.
