PRA’s 8th International Woodcoatings Congress will be held in Amsterdam on 30 – 31 October, 2012. Held every two years since 1998, this very successful series of conferences has become the premier event for professionals from the global wood coating industry to meet and network.
As in previous years, the 8th Woodcoatings Congress embraces all new technical developments in coatings and treatments for interior and exterior wood applications. The programme includes parallel sessions to give delegates a choice of papers to attend, according to their interests.
The main theme of the Congress is "Science and Technology for Sustainable Design", reflecting the industry’s interest in corporate responsibility towards the environment. This topic is addressed directly in the first session of the programme, from the perspective of the wider coatings industry.
The Congress will facilitate innovation in the formulation of woodcoatings, by bringing together the participants in the supply chain for an in-depth exchange of knowledge and ideas through face-to-face networking.
There are several institutions in Europe devoted to research in the important area of Forest Products: the congress is an opportunity for the outcome of several industry driven research projects to be disseminated. The programme includes several papers generated from collaborative projects, funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The Congress also provides the opportunity to listen to and debate the latest developments in the activities of the European standards committee (CEN TC 139 WG2).
There is no substitute for being exposed to stimulating ideas and new information, and following up in person with potential partners sharing the same interests.
Attendance at the congress is important for technical, marketing, production and general management staff who are involved in the protection of wood. Raw material and equipment suppliers, paint formulators, end-users and participants from research institutions and academia are all potential beneficiaries of this unique, intensive two-day collaboration with like-minded experts.
The Oil & Colour Chemists’ Association (OCCA) will again provide the Holbrow Medal for the best paper presented at the Congress. The award was endowed by Gordon Holbrow, who worked at the PRA for 45 years from 1936.
