PRA expands business consultancy and agrees to acquire IRFAB

PRA (Paint Research Association) reached agreement on 12th July to acquire Irfab Chemical Consultants, based in Brussels, for an undisclosed sum. Irfab founder, Franco Busato, will continue to support the business as senior advisor and consultant for at least two years, to ensure continuity of service to all Irfab clients. PRA has appointed Jonathan Bourne and Casimir Trotman-Dickenson as Directors of Irfab, who will integrate the organisations and further expand both the multi-client study programme and the confidential single-client consultancy service.

Founded in 1971, Irfab specialises in market assessment and technology forecasting on surface coatings and related chemical raw materials and is renowned for the quality of its information. The diverse nature of the surface coatings industry and the wide variety of definitions mean that the many niche segments are often difficult to analyse and quantify. Apart from bespoke single-client work, Irfab is well known for its programme of multi-client studies, such as Waterborne Coatings-Europe, Global Powder Coatings and New Coatings Technology Trends 2007-2012, which was published recently. The current open programme includes Global Industrial Coatings Markets 2006-2020, which companies can now subscribe to.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jonathan Bourne – Managing Director, PRA said, "We are delighted to have reached agreement with Franco as Irfab is a perfect fit with the strongly growing business consultancy practice established by PRA at the beginning of the 2006. Together we will form the leading source of quality proprietary data and information on the global surface coatings industry, uniquely supported by the PRA World Surface Coatings Library, the longest established and most comprehensive source of publicly available information anywhere in the world".

Franco Busato said, "I am very pleased to be entrusting the continuity of Irfab to such a highly respected independent organisation as the PRA. They have a high calibre consultancy team involved in strategy and confidential business advice and the capability to further grow the Irfab business".
