Development of a Diagnostic Kit for Cost Effective Maintenance Painting of Exterior Components

This project involved devising a user-friendly diagnostic kit for providing building inspectors with timely advice on cost effective maintenance painting.

The project was prompted by the current move from established solvent-borne paints towards new water-based or high-solids paints of unproven track record.

The final project report incorporates Guidance Notes (in both printed and expert system form) to enable building inspectors to decide on the manner and timing of repainting exterior building components.
