PRA's Environment Service offers measurement and testing as part of an integrated Health, Safety and Environmental Service specifically designed for the coatings industry. This service is intended to help companies comply with their obligations under legislation and company policy, while maintaining or improving process efficiency.

The service is split into two sections:

  • Stack Emission Testing
    • VOC emissions
    • Particulate emissions
    • Stack height calculations
  • Health & Safety
    • Occupational exposure testing
    • Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) testing
    • VOC content determinations

Stack emission testing is an essential step in the management of releases into the environment, while occupational exposure and LEV testing help to manage workplace exposure to hazardous substances.

Applications for measurement and testing programmes include:

  • compliance with process authorisations / permits
  • compliance with COSHH regulations
  • evaluation of workplace air quality
  • optimisation of plant conditions
  • improvement of process efficiency
  • evaluating the performance of abatement equipment
  • compliance with effluent discharge consent conditions

Our service is quality controlled. All sampling and analysis are carried out according to verified international standards and protocols wherever possible. Our particulate and total VOC emission monitoring procedures are UKAS accredited. We have also developed specific methods to overcome sampling difficulties in the coatings industry. A key feature of our service is the ability, through the expertise within the Association, to assist in finding solutions, not just defining problems.

PRA have carried out environmental measurement and testing in the coatings industry for over twenty five years for paint, resin, ink, and adhesive manufacturers and a variety of coating applications (e.g. vehicle refinishers, trade coaters, industrial equipment manufacture, furniture manufacture, powder coating, and electroplating).
