Description
This intensive four day course seeks to provide a firm foundation in the technology
of organic surface coatings.
The course contains an overview of the raw materials used in surface coatings and
their contribution to the final properties of the coatings.
Several changes have been made to the traditional course.
- A new section on Additives introduces the main features of additives
and considers their classification and function. A distinction is made
between additives which:-
- are necessary to realise inherent properties (e.g. pigment
disperser, drier or curing agent);
- confer an additional desirable property (e.g. rheology
modifier, biocide);
- overcome an undesirable effect (e.g. antifoam, anti flooding).
- Key questions are addressed:-
- What to add?
- How much to add?
- When and how to add it?
- The sections on Pigments and High Solids have been revised.
The study of the coatings systems emphasises the changes taking place in modern
technology.
